Remote control
Ask to drive while a teammate shares. Once they allow it, your mouse and keyboard work on their computer.
Ask for control
Open the menu at the top left of Sam's share and choose Request control. Or, in the call window's sidebar (⇧⌘C), open People, click the screen button next to Open on Sam's row, and click Request control.
While Sam decides, the line under "Sam's screen" at the share's top left says "Asking for control…". To cancel, choose Cancel control request in the same menu. A request nobody answers is denied after 30 seconds.
Once Sam allows it, that line says "Controlling", and a line over the share says how much time is left. Your mouse and keys go to Sam's computer, including shortcuts like ⌘Q. ⌘⇥ and ⌘Space stay on your Mac.
To stop, choose Give control back in the menu at the top left of the share, or click Give control back behind the screen button on Sam's row in People.
Allow control of your computer
Control is off for every new share. To let a teammate ask:
Turn on Accessibility
Founder Hud needs the Accessibility permission to move the mouse and type for your teammate. Turn it on in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Founder Hud posts nothing until you allow a request.
Turn on Allow control
Press and hold Share in the call window and check Allow control. If Accessibility is off, Founder Hud asks for it first.
Answer the request
A prompt says "Sam wants to control your Mac". Click Deny, or Allow for 10 min.
While Sam drives, a bar at the top of your screen says "Sam is controlling your Mac" and shows the time left. Sam doesn't see this bar or the prompt.
Limits
- One person controls your computer at a time.
- Each grant lasts 10 minutes. Click Add 10 min to extend it, up to an hour from now.
- When you move your own mouse or type, their input pauses for 1.5 seconds.
- Typing pauses in password fields.
- When you share a window or an app, clicks and keys stay inside it. When you share a display, apps hidden in Settings > Screen sharing > Hidden apps take no clicks.
- Some shortcuts never reach your Mac, such as Spotlight, log out, lock screen, Force Quit, screenshots, Mission Control and Spaces.
Take control back
Click Take back, or press Esc twice within half a second on your own keyboard.
Control also ends when the time runs out, when you stop sharing or share something else, when your computer locks, or when the connection drops.
