Share your screen with sound

Share a window, an app or a whole display while you're in a call. Its sound plays for everyone, so a demo or a video works as it does on your Mac.

Start and stop

Click Share in the call window's bar, or press ⇧⌘E. macOS shows its own picker: choose a window, an app or a display. To share something else, change it from the same macOS controls while you share.

To stop, click Stop sharing or press ⇧⌘E again. Leaving the call stops your share too.

More than one person can share at a time. Each viewer sees one share at a time in the call window, and picks another from the call window's bar or under Switch to in the menu at the share's top left.

Sound

Your share carries its sound:

  • A display share carries the sound of every app.
  • A window or app share carries only that app's sound.

Your call audio stays out of it, so nobody hears the call twice. Viewers set your share's volume on their side.

What stays out of your share

The macOS picker doesn't offer Founder Hud itself. When you share a whole display, Founder Hud keeps its own windows out of the share: the call window and the marks your teammates draw on your screen.

On a display share, Founder Hud also hides the apps listed in Settings > Screen sharing > Hidden apps. The list starts with password managers, Messages, Mail, Slack and other chat apps that are on your Mac. Notification banners stay off your share too. Hiding other apps needs the Screen Recording permission. Without it they show, and a line under the call window tells you. See Permissions.

A window or app share shows only what you picked, so nothing needs hiding.

Video or text

While you share, press and hold Share for its menu. Quality switches between Video and Text:

PickBest forUp to
VideoMotion, demos, videos2560×1600 at 30 fps
TextCode and small type3840×2400 at 15 fps

The Share button's tooltip shows what each person receives, for example "Sam sees 1920×1080 at 30 fps"; someone who falls behind shows as a line under the window.

Founder Hud sends only what someone is watching. When nobody has your share open, it drops to 1 frame per second and keeps the sound going.

Let viewers play

In the Share button's menu, which opens when you press and hold it:

  • Toys from viewers lets viewers' toys show on your screen.
  • Allow control lets a viewer ask to control your Mac. It's off for every new share.
